Who operates GetSeen
GetSeen (getseen.work) is operated personally by Chidera Anthony, an individual based in Nigeria. There is no company behind it. For the purposes of the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 (NDPA) and applicable data-protection law, Chidera Anthony is the data controller.
Privacy questions and requests: privacy@getseen.work.
The short version
- Listings are public by design. The information a professional submits (except their private admin email) is meant to be seen.
- We use no analytics, no advertising, and no third-party trackers. Public pages set no cookies at all; the only thing stored in your browser is a light/dark theme preference.
- Payments are handled by our payment provider. We never see or store your full card details.
- We don’t sell personal data, and we don’t build profiles of visitors.
Information we collect
Listing information (from people who list)
When you submit a listing you provide, and we store: your entity type (individual or agency), public name or business name, professional or business title, service category and specialties, country, availability status, and — optionally — a profile photo URL, a portfolio/website URL, a LinkedIn URL, and a public contact email. You also provide a private administrative email, and a record that you accepted these terms at submission.
Public listing pages show a generated monogram (initials on a name-derived color), not your profile photo. Even when you provide a profile photo URL, GetSeen never loads that external image in visitors’ browsers, so the server hosting the image never receives a visitor’s IP address. We do not host uploads; the URL is stored only so that images could later be shown through a privacy-preserving proxy.
Boost and payment information
When a listing is boosted, we store payment metadata: the amount, the currency, our own payment reference, the provider’s checkout, payment, and event identifiers, the payment status, internal timing and accounting metadata, and the time it was confirmed. Anyone can boost any approved listing, and boosts can be made without providing identity, so this data is generally not linked to a named person by us. If you optionally provide an email at checkout for your receipt, it is passed to the payment provider and stored with the payment so receipts and any refund updates can reach you.
Engagement information
When a visitor follows an outbound link on a listing (portfolio, LinkedIn, or contact), we record that an event of that type happened for that listing, along with internal timing metadata. We do not store who clicked — no IP address, no identifier, no profile. These events are only ever shown as aggregate counts.
Technical information
Like any website, our servers and infrastructure providers process basic technical information needed to deliver and secure the service — for example your IP address and browser type in request logs. We do not combine this with your identity or store it as part of a listing.
Messages you send us
If you email support@getseen.work or privacy@getseen.work, we receive and keep that correspondence so we can respond and keep a record.
What is public
Approved listings are public. The following is visible to anyone: entity type, name/business name, title, category and specialties, country, availability, a generated monogram avatar (your profile photo itself is not displayed), portfolio and LinkedIn links, and the public contact email you choose to display. A listing’s cumulative boosted total and its total number of outbound clicks are also shown publicly. Your private administrative email is never displayed.
How we use information, and our lawful bases
- Operating and displaying listings — to publish approved profiles and let visitors discover and contact people. Lawful basis: your consent when you submit a public listing, and our legitimate interest in running the directory.
- Moderation — to review, approve, reject, hide, or remove listings for safety, policy, fraud, legal, or quality reasons. Lawful basis: legitimate interests and, where relevant, legal obligation.
- Processing boosts and ranking — to take payment, verify it, and calculate the sponsored order. Lawful basis: performance of the boost transaction and legal obligation for financial records.
- Measuring engagement — to show aggregate outbound click counts. Lawful basis: legitimate interests.
- Security and fraud prevention — to protect the service and detect payment or ranking manipulation. Lawful basis: legitimate interests and legal obligation.
- Support and legal/accounting obligations — to answer you and to keep required records. Lawful basis: legitimate interests and legal obligation.
Where we rely on consent — for example, publishing your listing — you can withdraw it at any time by asking us to remove the listing.
Payments
Boost payments are processed by Bachs, our third-party payment provider, on its own hosted checkout. Your card or payment details are entered with Bachs, not with us. We do not receive or store full card numbers; we only store the payment metadata described above (amounts, status, and provider references). Bachs processes your payment details under its own terms and privacy policy.
Cookies and local storage
On public pages, GetSeen sets no cookies and uses no analytics or advertising technologies. The only data stored in your browser is a single localStorage value remembering your light or dark theme preference. It is essential to that preference, stays on your device, and is never sent to us. Because public pages set no non-essential cookies or trackers, there is no consent banner to click through.
The one exception is the staff-only operator console at /ops, which the site operator uses to review listings. Signing in there sets a single, strictly-necessary session cookie so the operator stays authenticated. It is HttpOnly, scoped to the console so it is never sent from public pages, and used purely for authentication rather than tracking. Ordinary visitors never receive it.
Service providers
We rely on a small number of processors to run the service:
- Supabase — managed PostgreSQL database hosting, where listing and payment records are stored.
- Bachs — payment processing for boosts.
- Resend — sends transactional moderation notices (for example, when a listing is approved, rejected, hidden, or restored) to the listing’s private owner email. It processes that email address and the message content only to deliver these notices; the emails contain no third-party tracking or open-tracking pixels.
- Our hosting provider — a virtual private server that runs the application and serves the site.
We do not use advertising networks, data brokers, or analytics vendors.
International processing
GetSeen is a global directory, and our providers may store or process data outside Nigeria, including in the European Union and other regions. Where personal data moves across borders, we rely on providers that offer appropriate safeguards and process it in line with this policy and applicable law.
How long we keep information
We keep listing information for as long as the listing is live, and for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes above. Payment and transaction records are retained as business and accounting records, and for fraud prevention — consistent with our ranking model, we do not delete payment history. We do not run automated deletion on a fixed schedule; instead we keep data only as long as it is needed or as the law requires, and remove listings on request (subject to records we must retain).
Your rights
Under the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 (NDPA) and applicable data-protection law, you may have the right to access the personal data we hold about you, to correct it, to ask us to delete it, to object to or restrict certain processing, to withdraw consent where we rely on it, and to data portability where it applies. To exercise any of these, email privacy@getseen.work and tell us what you would like to do; we may need to confirm your connection to a listing before acting.
You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC), or your local data-protection authority.
Security
We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect personal data: the site is served over encrypted connections (HTTPS), access to the database is restricted, and card payments are handled by a specialized payment provider so sensitive payment details never reach our systems. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Children
GetSeen is intended for professionals and is not directed to children. You must be at least 18 years old to submit a listing or make a boost. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children; if you believe a child has provided data, contact us and we will remove it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the service evolves. When we do, we will change the effective date above, and for material changes we will make the update reasonably prominent. Continued use of GetSeen after an update means the revised policy applies.
